NEW: SCIENTISTS DISCOVER HERB THAT BATTLES DEMENTIA AND BOOSTS MEMORY BY 75%.

A team of scientists has actually revealed that smelling rosemary can increase the memory by 75%. This multi-purpose medical herb offers many health advantages due to which it has been commonly utilized throughout the history.

One interesting reality is that the ancient Greeks wore rosemary springs in the hair while studying for their exams.

This remarkable herb has actually been used to boost long-term memory and alertness for centuries. Even the famous Shakespeare mentions the extraordinary benefits of the rosemary in “Hamlet”.

A study conducted at the Northumbria University, Newcastle in 2003 found that smelling rosemary is associated with “an improvement of efficiency for general quality of memory and secondary memory aspects”.

  • After ten years, these scientists clinically explained the cognitive-boosting capabilities of the herb. Namely, the professionals followed twenty individuals as they carried out subtraction exercises and visual info processing jobs and other tests. They assessed the mood of the individuals prior to and after the exposure to the rosemary scent and took blood samples.

The study involves 66 people completely, and they were randomly designated to either the rosemary-scented room or another space without any aroma.

The findings were incredible– as the rosemary smell considerably increased memory in the participants.

Particularly, individuals in the rosemary-scented room performed 60-75% better on remembering events to completing jobs, as well as recalled things far better that the other individuals.

NEW: SCIENTISTS DISCOVER HERB THAT BATTLES DEMENTIA AND BOOSTS MEMORY BY 75%.

  • In addition, the blood samples showed that the blood of the participants exposed to the rosemary-scented room had detectable levels of 1,8-cineole, which is an active substance in rosemary. This suggests that this substance was absorbed into the blood stream, and the higher the levels, the much better the results were.

Dr. Mark Moss, which was the lead researcher, specified:.

” This compound is present in rosemary however has not formerly been shown to be absorbed into blood plasma in humans.

It is our view that the scent, for that reason, imitates a therapeutic drug, instead of any results being an outcome of the more sensory properties of the aroma. The chemicals are likewise thought to have actually directly stimulated the olfactory nerve in the nose, which could have impacts on brain functioning.”.

Due to the carnosic acid and rosmarinic acid material, which battle totally free extreme damage, prevent beta-amyloid-induced neurodegeneration in the hippocampus, inhibit the growth of cancer cells, and prevent Alzheimer’s, rosemary significantly supports brain health.

Another researcher, Jemma McCready, commented:.

” We deliberately set them a great deal of jobs, so it’s possible that people who multi-task could function better after sniffing rosemary oil. And, there was no link in between the individuals’ mood and memory. This recommends efficiency is not influenced as an effect of changes in awareness or arousal.”.

Dr. Mark Moss, being really positive and excited at the real-life ramifications of the study, stated:.

” We are concentrated on potential memory, which includes the ability to keep in mind events that will happen in the future and to bear in mind to finish tasks at specific times.

This is important for daily performance, for example when somebody has to keep in mind to publish a birthday card or to take medication at a particular time.

Plants are really complex organisms and consist of various active compounds and these vary in concentration from plant to plant as well as within the exact same plant during a day.

The accumulation of understanding regarding possible effects of plant aromas and extracts might potentially result in an identification of the finest combination to promote particular effects.”.

Additionally, Dr. Alan Hirsch, director of the Odor and Taste Treatment and Research study Structure in Chicago, who became part of this professional team, agrees and claims that the findings of this study open another perspective to explore the effects of this spectacular natural herb.

The best ways to Utilize Rosemary.

Experts claim that in order to delight in the benefits of the rosemary, you should diffuse a few drops of premium natural necessary oil using a diffuser.

You can also merely place the plant by the desk in the workplace or someplace in your home. To keep your brain sharp all the time, you can mix a drop of rosemary oil in a teaspoon of coconut oil and carry it in a little cosmetic tin in your bag. Then, rub a bit on the wrists.

Think again

(來源:pixabay.com)

What is competitiveness? There are actually a number of definitions out there. The World Economic Forum, which has been measuring competitiveness among countries since 1979, defines it as “the set of institutions, policies and factors that determine the level of productivity of a country”. Others are subtly different but all generally use the word “productivity”.

Another way to think about what makes a country competitive is to consider how it actually promotes our well-being. A competitive economy, we believe, is a productive one. And productivity leads to growth, which leads to income levels and hopefully, at the risk of sounding simplistic, improved well-being.

Why should we care about it?

Productivity is important because it has been found to be the main factor driving growth and income levels. And income levels are very closely linked to human welfare. So understanding the factors that allow for this chain of events to occur is very important.

Basically, rising competitiveness means rising prosperity. At the World Economic Forum, we believe that competitive economies are those that are most likely to be able to grow more sustainably and inclusively, meaning more likelihood that everyone in society will benefit from the fruits of economic growth.

How do we measure it?

We break down countries’ competitiveness into 12 distinct areas, or pillars, which we group into three sub-indexes. These are “basic requirements” which comprise institutions, infrastructure, macroeconomic environment and health and primary education. We call these “basic” as these pillars tend to be those that countries at earlier stages of development tackle first.

Next comes our “efficiency enhancers” sub-index. Essentially we’re looking at markets – whether it is the functioning of goods, labour or financial markets – but we also consider higher education and training, and technological readiness, which measures how well economies are prepared for the transition into more advanced, knowledge-based economies.

Our last pillar, innovation and sophistication, consists of two pillars: business sophistication and innovation. These are more complex areas of competitiveness that require an economy to be able to draw on world-class businesses and research establishments, as well as an innovative, supportive government. Countries that score highly in these pillars tend to be advanced economies with high gross domestic product per capita.

What doesn’t competitiveness tell us?

Generally, the world is getting better and better at measuring things, but nonetheless there are always black-spots in any benchmarking exercise. Despite our best efforts, we still haven’t found a fail-safe way of including a country’s environmental record into its competitiveness score. Nor do we attempt to measure whether, or to what degree, competitiveness makes people happy, although there are others that do attempt to measure this. Does a country that is competitive mean it is best able to face the future? Again, the answer is yes and no: some countries are investing for the onset of the Fourth Industrial Revolutionin ways that we have not yet found a reliable way of measuring. This last area is a focus of considerable work here these days.

What have we learned this year?

Aside from some countries going up and others going down, this year’s set of data gives us insight into three areas that continue to be important to policy-makers in 2016. With the debate on globalization becoming increasingly politicized, with opponents blaming it for increasing levels of inequality and offshoring of manufacturing jobs, and proponents emphasizing the role it has played in raising millions of people out of poverty, we actually find that countries’ openness when it comes to trading goods and services with one another has been declining steadily, if slowly, for the past 10 years. With openness directly linked to economic growth, this seems significant, especially as the trend seems to stem mainly from the encroachment of non-tariff barriers, which are subtle and often hard to detect.

With every advanced economy having undergone some form of monetary stimulus such as quantitative easing since the great recession, the report also helps us understand why some countries have been more effective than others in reigniting sustained growth. By comparing the competitiveness of those economies that have engaged in monetary stimulus programmes over this period, we find that those with high competitiveness scores were more successful in driving economic growth than others with lower scores, even if the latter have expanded their central bank balance sheets by a greater amount.

The report offers insight into how priorities may be shifting for nations in earlier stages of development. While basic drivers of competitiveness such as infrastructure, health, education and well-functioning markets will always be important, data in the report suggests that a nation’s performance in terms of technological readiness, business sophistication and innovation is now as important in driving competitiveness and growth. This is important for policy-makers and leaders in emerging markets who need to be aware that the reality when it comes to helping move their economy up the income ladder is much more nuanced than they may have previously believed.

Every day we see the emergence of new technologies. And every day we see a widening gap between progress and society’s ability to cope with its consequences. Whether it is an impending shift in the nature of work as technology changes production systems, or the ethical implications of reengineering what it means to be human, the changes we see around us threaten to overwhelm us if we cannot collaborate to understand and direct them.

Unprecedented and simultaneous advances in artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, the internet of things, autonomous vehicles, 3D printing, nanotechnology, biotechnology, materials science, energy storage, quantum computing and others are redefining industries, blurring traditional boundaries, and creating new opportunities. We have dubbed this the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and it is fundamentally changing the way we live, work and relate to one another.

This revolution is arriving on the back of a slew of transformative technologies. But it is much more than the sum of these technologies. The first industrial revolution came in on the back of a wave of innovation – the invention of the steam engine and the cotton mill, for instance – and represented a history-altering wave of systemic change such as urbanization, mass education and industrialization of agriculture. The second industrial revolution, with electrification and mass production, saw the advent of entirely new social models and ways of working, and the third industrial revolution – the digital revolution – provided the electronic and computing foundations for the radical shrinking of the world we have seen over the past five decades.

The same will be true this time – individual technologies will be influential, but the real change will be in the social and economic systems that shape our lives and how we live them.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution metaphor is most useful as a mental model to help business, government and society navigate the radical shifts that will occur as these technologies become embedded in our lives. We are encountering new business models as well as ethical, safety and social issues as emerging technologies come to life. But we have yet to collectively solve some of the most basic questions on critical issues such as the ownership of personal data, security of social infrastructure and systems, and the rights and responsibilities of the new leaders of our business landscape.

For a prosperous future, we must ask how all of us, and the technological systems we design and build, can serve the proper ends and not be confined to the means. Our efforts must focus on the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on human beings, society and the environment, and not just focus on technological progress or economic productivity.

I see four principles which should guide our policy and practice as we progress further into this revolution.

Firstly, we must focus on systems rather than technologies, because the important considerations will be on the wide-reaching changes to business, society and politics rather than technologies for their own sake.

Secondly, we must empower our societies to master technologies and act to counter a fatalistic and deterministic view of progress. Otherwise, there is no room for optimism and positive transformation, and society’s agency is nullified.

Thirdly, we need to prioritize futures by design rather than default. Collaboration between all stakeholders must play a central role in how we integrate these transformative technologies. Otherwise, our future will be delivered by default.

And lastly, we must focus on key values as a feature of new technologies, rather than as a bug. Technologies used in a way that increase disparity, poverty, discrimination and environmental damage work against the future we seek. For the investment in these technologies to be justifiable, they must bring us a better world, not one of increased insecurity and dislocation.

The social and economic challenges posed by the Fourth Industrial Revolution are too much for any stakeholder to tackle alone. Business has an enormous amount at stake, as creating the conditions for safe and socially prosperous technology development and deployment is critical. Active government engagement is crucial, but without engagement and collaboration with those leading the revolution, governance will always be a step behind. And without an informed civil society understanding and engagement around the issues, we are likely to miss complex interactions on humanity, society and the environment.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution and the systemic changes it will usher in emphasize more than ever the critical need for collaborative engagement around increasingly complex and fast-moving issues. We need new ways of working together to tackle issues that arise faster than ever, provide clarity of operating environment for business, and provide society with confidence that it is moving forward into a technological future where the opportunities and benefits outweigh risks and unknowns. Leadership in these complex times requires nothing less than a wholesale shift of our mental models, a step change in collaborative engagement, and the ability to collectively envisage the futures that we want to create, and manage ourselves away from the dystopias which technological progress can conjure.
